Magnetic Therapy can help improve your sleep.
There are two specific ways that magnetic therapy can help improve the quality of your sleep a) Pain relief and b) Melatonin production.
Poor quality of sleep is often a direct result of having some sort of pain when going to bed. When magnetic therapy is used to relieve pain, your quality of sleep should significantly improve.
Even more signifiacnt though, the pineal gland is magnetically-sensitive. This small gland is located in the center of the brain and secretes the natural hormone melatonin. The natural increase in melatonin production late in the day is what allows us to fall asleep.
Circadian rhythms (our sleep/wake cycle) are synchronised by the pineal gland regulating melatonin secretion throughout the day. As we get older, melatonin production decreases, making it even more difficult to get a restful night's sleep.
The pineal gland contains magnetite crystals, and can be directly influenced by external magnetic fields. Our natural sleep-wake cycle can be disturbed by things like stress, and even the time of the year.
The strength of the earth's magnetic field reduces during the winter months and this can lead to a desynchronisation of circadian rhythms, and a condition known as seasonal affective disorder. This quite common disorder is characterised by recurrent winter depression associated with hypersomnia, overeating, and carbohydrate craving.
By applying an external magnetic field using a magnetic mattress pad or magnetic therapy pillow, melatonin secretion can be rebalanced and circadian rhythms resynchronized. This helps us fall asleep easier and improves quality of sleep.
